The Studios

Our most tranquil studio and one that is often used by our painters. At 26 ½ by 35 feet it is more than enough space for a large class. During the day people often do not need to, or forget to, turn the lights on in this studio because it has such great natural light. The large windows about the room allow one to look out and see the nature that makes up HCAF and the immediate area of the Visual Arts Center itself. Eight sawhorse tables and one small table are kept in this studio though, of course, things can be changed to suit the needs of whoever is using the studio. The studio also has a large demo mirror so that a teacher can demonstrate what they are doing and students can see from their seats what is being done.

Studio II

A medium sized studio at 26 ½ by 27 ½ feet, this is excellent for intimate classes or more messy work. This is often the favored room for our younger children during the Youth Art Camps we host in the summer. If a studio that is a little more isolated suits the project, then this is the studio to work in. It has back widows that allow for much natural light but has wood walls on all other sides. The studio contains eight small tables and one metal table as well as a sink and is the only studio that connects directly to the Breezeway.

Breezeway

An area on campus that works as a casual space with a set of table and chairs as well as a refrigerator for storing drinks and lunches. Many of our workshop attendees bring their own lunches then sit in the Breezeway or outside and commune with each other. The Breezeway also contains enough counter space for some moderate food preparation and a coffee pot. Through the Breezeway one can make it to the ceramics studio.

Ceramics Studio

The Visual Arts Center hosts the only fully-equipped Ceramics Studio in the area that is open to the public. Local ceramicists come and use the space. There are five Wheels in the studio, a Raku Kiln, Gas Kiln, two Electric Kilns, a spray booth, slab roller, and an extruder. All with ample counter space to work on.

Studio III

This is a large studio at 34 x 27 feet and is another favored studio for workshops. An added benefit to this studio is that it is equipped with a large mirror hanging at a slant above one of the large work tables. The mirror allows an instructor to work at their table and other students can watch what they are doing at their table from their own tables by looking at the mirror. The studio has windows along one wall so there is plenty of natural light and boasts a very large amount of space for everyone to work. Ten high tables are set up in this studio and it is directly connected to our printing studio.

Studio IV

Our smallest studio but the studio that houses all of our printmaking machines. For more information on these machines please call us.
